As an owner of a circa 1952 Klepper Aerius II, I can truly offer testimony
to the longevity of these wonderful boats (it was picked up for $20 at
a yard sale!). I bought a new hull in 1995, and there is no question that
it is now as seaworthy as it ever was. Thanks for the wonderfully informative
site!

Once you start with a foldingboat, you just can't stop. Since 1964 I
own Foldingboats (HAMMER Double, KLEPPER AE II and KLEPPER T9). Been on
lakes and rivers in Germany, USA and Canada. About the best you can transport
on planes, cars and trains. A wonderful site.

I bought a K1 last year and haven't had much chance to use it. Starting
August 7th I am working on a cruise ship (MV Silver Wind/ Silverseas Cruises)that
will be meandering across the Med for about three months, then through
Suez Canal, down the coast of Africa -Kenya, Madagascar, S. Africa, then
across to Brazil and up to the Caribbean and the U.S. I browsed your site
to get ideas on faster set-ups. The ship doesn't have anywhere that I can
leave the boat intact (at least not yet). If all goes according to plan,
I should be able to get on the water once or twice a week for a few hours.
I'll keep you posted... Wylie

thanks again for this amazingly comprehensive site. i didn't know anything
about the newly reorganized pouch company until i found ralph hoehn through
your link. he has been a great person to work with, and i ended up with
a new edition of one of their older designs, an e-65iii, which seems to
fit my requirements exceedingly well. your site exemplifies the best possibilities
of the internet.

I recently aquired a canvas folding kayak. Manufactured by Tyne probably
about 40 years old. It is in good condition needing some very minor repairs.
My kayaking days are over unfortunately. Could anyone tell me if it has
any value (if any) and how I would go about selling it. Thanks for any
help.

Thanks a bunch for providing this excellent site. I'm a rookie to kayaking
and have been searching for the one for me. This site gives me a lot of
information. Because of my limits in transport and tote, the folding kayak
appears to be my answer. Now I just have to find my perfect fit and price.
Thanks.

There are a number of Japanese companies manufacturing folding kayaks.
Besides Fujita, Arfeq,Faltpia and Nanok all make folding kayaks. They are
popular here because of the lack of space in an urban Japanese setting.

Great site. Because of [Ralph's] book,I'm looking to buy a foldable

or the Nautiraid Grand-Raid. I like the Quattro better, but it is expensive.

Great site for folders. My first experience was in Kleppers in the
Commandos in the Australian Army in the 70's floating off submarines. They're
still going strong despite harsh treatment. I have my own Klepper A-2 now
and looking at the sail kit(with envy) and holidays in the Great Barrier
Reef. I like all boats but appreciate the seaworthiness and the versatility
of foldables. If anyone can help me with some measurements for the original
seats for a seventies vintage Klepper A-2 drop me a line. Bye!

Building my own 16.8 ft along several ideas got on the market plus
mine (lightness is a must and mine is less than 15 kg). All info here can
be useful to me if you care, I could post pics in jpg. Perhaps will sell
plans after a good test of the boat.

A member of my kayaking club discouraged me from looking into foldables
2 years ago when I was interested, so I just cooled my jets until recently.
I've ordered a Kahuna and am anxiously awaiting its arrival. I paddle rivers
and flat water mostly, but look forward to its portability so I can take
it with me to the coast. I'll be checking out Diaz's book and the newsletter.

I am planning a trip to Ireland to paddle the Shannon River. However
when I asked the airlines if they would transport a Kayak they quoted me
$1000 each way. At that time I ordered the new Feathercraft folding boat
the "Kahuna" sight unseen, it still isn't in their brochure. Since then
I have seen your web site and have gained a lot of information that I really
need. I hope to start your newsletter. Thanks a lot, Dave Johnston Thanks

Thank you so much for your pages. There is so much useful information
on them and links to some really fascinating sites on early folding kayaks
and sailing dinghies. I have a Klepper Slalom from the 50s which is still
servicable and a Tyne folding double and a Granta folding double (both
British, from the 50s or 60s). These last two boats need new hulls and
the Granta's hull is now in an advanced state of construction. I have also
refurbished and remade bits of the frameworks of these two boats. I plan
to team up with Richard Mitchell and his Canvas Kayak Pages and become
a source of technical expertise to anyone making a new hull. There are
so many folding kayaks from the 50s and 60s that could be saved if only
people could make themselves a new hull. My intention is to use my boats
for touring continental waterways. I also have a Seahopper folding sailing
dinghy which I intend using for the same purpose.

Hi Michael, You may not remember but about a year and a half ago I
emailed you with some questions about buying a folder. Your thoughts were
very helpful. I now own a Nautiraid double and a Feathercraft single and
love them both. Nothing else could get me to some of the remote spots up
here. And I've even travelled to a couple of races in San Diego with the
double. Your cite continues to improve and inspire. Thanks

Great and useful site. I found a guy coming out of the ocean in AK

A big Hello from Germany today, I linked myself trouhg the Net and
found your Page. somewhere on a german Faltboot-page must have been a link
and i wondered, what the Americans think about those boats. first, i was
glad, that you like the boats as much as i do, but than i had to read,
that some people don't trust the durability of those boats. My father has
a HAMA boat, build 1937, and i took it with me to norway last summer, it
is as good as ever. You can trust those boats, the wooden frame of the
Klepper boats will hold easy 50 years and the newer Pouch boats are not
faar behind. At home, i'll search some photos of our three boats and mail
them (A Klepper Passat(~1965), a Pouch Kolibri (~1975) and the Hama (1937))
