Apostle Islands 2007

Post by Kheya Shunka »

I covered some miles, water was brutal cold. 6-9 foot one morning, 40k winds, I like swells, I'm not a big fan of paddling in the wind. I holed the Khats , smacked up against a piling on shore at Devils, a giant nail pushed through the hull chine.

That was funny. Man, those flies looked intense. Great pictures. Duct tape for temporary hull fix? C.

No field fix. I actually did'nt realize it was holed until I noted about a gallon of water in the kayak after paddling 3 hours. When I struck it thought there was going to be a glaringly obvious hole, it wasn't. So it was a weeper that I tracked down when I got home. I was amazed though for the size, I could push the tip of my pinkie through, that it wasn't a gusher.

...Great country but those flies are totally outta control. And that weather sounds wicked too.
