Letting the Khat out of the bag.

Post by tsunamichuck »

Went down to the Southwest Sea Kayak Symposium over the weekend. Spent the afternoon in a borrowed Jive surfing off LaJolla and getting critiqued and encouraged by Nigel Foster and Sean Morley. Instead of sitting around talking kayaks or testing kayaks, I put the Khatsalano together Friday night and took her for a leisurely 15 mile paddle from Mission Bay around Pt Loma and into San Diego Bay to meet my shuttle bunny. There was a good 6-8 ft swell with some occasional 10s. The seat had loosened up a bit and I was not quite adjusted and I struggled with some weathercocking the final leg. Did a few rolls out on the ocean. My partner had his Explorer and was questioning the watertightness of my boat. He was pretty surprised to when I pulled out my sock and revealed a few small spots of moisture compared to his 1/4 full of water stern. Got a few more days this week to get her tweaked and I will mark my spots. Image
