Had a short trip a few weekends ago over at a few of the Southern Islands of Singapore. You can check out the trip report over at http://kayaktak.wordpress.com/2013/04/19/trips-southern-islands-singapore/.

Cheers (=

Tak, Thank you for the interesting report, your meeting with the turtle, and the (almost) battle with the local residents on the island, eventually i,m sure they would win, reminds me of the ones at Batu Caves.

I second john's comment, thanks for the trip report. I don't think I could have slept with those crazy monkeys! I had a similar experience with a turtle, I believe it was a loggerhead, several miles offshore in Florida. We were both shocked when she surfaced not 10 meters off my bow, with me under sail and closing fast. She grabbed a lungful of air, snapped her beak, and dove straight under my kayak.
Be safe,
Greg

Tak,
How easy is it to get to Sentosa from Paya Lebar? Any issues with bring a packed boat on the trains?
When is the best weather? I may try to hop to Singapore from the US Oct-early December this year.
Any issues with Pirates in the Straits?
Chuck

It really depends which part of Paya Lebar you're in. It's really easy getting to the Sentosa beach area by train. Get off at harbourfront train station, catch another train to Sentosa and you're there.

There are lifts at all train stations. No issues with oversized bags too since the trains go all the way to the airport. Avoid the peak morning and evening hours and you should be fine. You do need a permit if you intend to camp over on the islands though, and some islands do not allow overnight camping.

When is the best weather?
See below

The weather is very predictable in Singapore, it's either rain or shine

Any issues with Pirates in the Straits?
absolutely no pirates, the area is frequently patrolled by the coast guards and there is a port nearby. Not easy to pull off some pirate tricks over there. Or anywhere in Singapore waters.
