My daughter recently turned eight and asked for a day out paddling for her birthday. Using our LH MkII and a new-to-us Aerius II, we paddled the Hudson River (great views of West Point, Breakneck Ridge, and Storm King Mountain) and Constitution Marsh Nature Preserve. The children acquitted themselves well assembling the MkII while I built the Aerius II. It was great fun to compare the solutions of the two designs; which are very similar in parts, but far from identical. Kids had a great time and asked to paddle up in the Adirondacks next.

For some reason the forum is limiting me to 640x400 images, so I've just attached them as hyperlinks here. Apologies. ... G_2963.JPG ... G_2958.JPG ... G_2959.JPG ... G_2957.JPG ... G_2964.JPG

What fun! It's so great to see kids getting into kayaking.

If and when you decide to head north, my brother Nick and sister in law live just North of Saratoga Springs, just a few minutes off the Northway. They rent out a genuine Mongolian yurt in their back yard on Air BnB, plenty of room for the whole family (has AC and heat) and has an outdoor shower as well as access to full bathroom in the house (plus a koi pond with waterfall and Japanese bridge and a couple of friendly resident kitties). They often kayak in the area themselves and can direct you to some great paddles nearby including Fish Creek (which passes an excellent brick oven pizza restaurant, Hearth and Harvest, with its own dock), the upper Hudson River and Lake George. It would be a good base camp for further trips into the lakes and rivers of the Dack's.

I’ve done some paddling in their backyard - Kayaderosseras Creek (while fishing for browns). It’s lovely. And their AirBnB looks lovely. I think the Raquette River is next on our list.
