Flew to Florida

We spent just a few days in Punta Gorda with friends, I brought my Folbot Yukon. To ease transport through the airport, I rented a luggage cart and strapped it in. Did some paddling among the mangroves, went a bit astray. I thought for sure that second channel on the way back led into the first, no. I judge direction by the wind and sky, but I have Navionics on my phone for backup. The problem then is that it gives your location, and shows charted boat channels, but the two didn't coincide. At worst I could always backtrack. Instead I worked my way out by listening to powerboats on open water. There was a dead end first. I should have known that wouldn't go through when the mangroves were so close I ha to push aside branches and sweep spider webs to pass. For sure when the water turned black and still. Anyway I re-entered the harbor about a mile south of the launch. It's not an adventure If you don't have challenges. (So a shipmate on a bigger boat told me after bad weather and a leak)

Great stuff, John. Not everybody enjoys the mangroves. Ann and I are in South Florida every winter with Folbots and hardshells. We love exploring the mangrove creeks despite the orchard spiders and crab-shaped orb weavers.

I like paddling in creeks and marshes where most boats don't go.
