Hi !

I live in the UK and love folding kayaks.
I was looking to buy a Folbot Gremlin but they went out of business before I got a chance to do the deal.
So that's one of the things I'll be on the lookout for.
+ general stuff on folding kayaks & tips, etc.

Best regards
Martin23

Consider the Pakboat Puffin Saco as a worthy substitute for the Gremlin. 12' 6" long, 26" beam, 20 lbs without the optional deck and about 23 lbs with it. I have an older model 12' Puffin and brought it on holiday with me from the US to Yorkshire last Spring and paddled the Rye and Derwent with the local paddlers' club. I would be glad to share photos if you want a link to them. (this forum restricts posted photos to such small file sizes that they are difficult to view.)

I've used the boat in larger urban rivers -- the nearby Ohio River is as wide and deep as the Thames at London Bridge (though with no tide race). And I have used it in coastal bays. It's a great size for the sort of winding canals and rivers of the UK countryside. Very easy kayak to set up and you can't beat the low weight. I can pack it with a 4-piece Cannon carbon paddle, my buoyancy aid, and all the accessories and clothing needed to paddle the boat in a rolling duffel that meets airline size and weight restrictions for free baggage. Being narrower beam than the Gremlin should make it faster -- still very stable due to the inflatable side sponsons. Super comfortable seat (I have a newer Pakboat Quest as well with the sling/inflatable seat that they use in the newer Puffins.)

Pakboat is based in New Hampshire in the US, but the owner, Alv, has roots in Scandinavia and sells and ships worldwide. Very good customer service and reasonable prices.

Thanks for the post Kerry. Couple of things for me to look into there.
