Post subject:  Hi

I'm a 41 year old male from the San Franciscao Bay Area. I have been paddling for four years now and have paddled and owned many types of kayaks -- except for a folding kayak.

I'm ready to purchase a boat and am doing as much research as possible.

And I'm very glad to be here. :P

Hi Franz,

Welcome to the group. I'm sure you'll find interesting information here.

Two other websites which are useful are the Folbot Forum
http://www.folbotforum.com/

- and the Yahoo bagboaters group
http://groups.yahoo.com/group/Bagboater/

If you haven't already found your way there, give them a try.

Mary
(not paddling at the moment, as winter has not yet given up in the UK.)

I could let you try my Khatsalano. I will try and get down tomorrow, but depends on the condition of I80 over Donner Summit

Just brief notes - in addition to Chuk's Khats, you might also want to try (if you find them) Feathercraft Whisper, Kahuna and K1. These are the closest to hardshell kayaks in handling, and in North America they are the most common in that class. K1 and Khats take a bit of efforts and time to asemble - more than Kahuna, and probably more than any single Folbot or Klepper. Many folders (other than three FC mentioned above) are wider (and heavier, and more stabile too, and some are relatively cheap) - if you are looking for that.

Hi Franz, I also happen to be in the Bay Area and own a Fujita 480, which you might want to consider. I work in theater, which is rather seasonal, the season being now. On the flip side, the theater is on the end of a pier at Fort Mason, Marina District. Perhaps we can work something out...

Post subject:  Hey Franz

I ended up driving down Wed and going back that night because of the storm. ( Makes it hard to get over Donner with the chain controls). I am heading down to Santa Cruz for the surf fest Mar 24-26 and can bring the Khats then

I ended up buying a Fujita 500. Haven't paddled it yet, but it looks like a decent boat.

I'm going to try and make it down surf fest too.

Post subject:  SF Bay Area

Hello Franz

We are also in the Bay Area, if you count the Sacramento River in our backyard. We can slip into the river and be in SF in about 90 miles of downstream paddle.

We've had a couple of Kiwi Kayaks for many years and now are the proud owners of a 1958 Klepper double, in very good condition, complete with orginal sails, ectal.

We are interested in doing the Golden Gate, from Baker's beach, or other bay cruises,, and I will have to do McCovey Cove when Barry Bonds is up to bat.

so, hello and welcome to the folding world 8)
