Hello,

I live in Los Angeles, and am looking at getting a folding kayak soon. I grew up with hard-shells on the AuSable river just downstream of Grayling, Michigan (Hup!), but I haven't kayaked recently outside of trips to visit family in Michigan. I am looking forward to learning more about sea kayaking as opposed to river kayaking, and like the prospect of taking my boat with me on trips.

Thanks,
Travis

Welcome Travis, you will find all the helpful and friendly advice here that you might want. There are also lots of sea kayakers in Orange and San Diego Counties, although many (most) are coastal fisherman. Hope you get a boat and get in the water!

Hey! Welcome to the forum. I grew up in San Pedro and Rancho Palos Verdes - mostly surfing along the coast. I remember sea kayakers sometimes launching at Torrance Beach while I was paddling out. As a teenager, that looked "unsafe" to me  Looking back, I wish I'd had a folding kayak to explore the inland waterways around L.A. Harbor, Terminal Island, and Long Beach. Catalina's not too far off the coast - an old San Pedro guy, John Olguin, famously used a rowboat to get to either Avalon or Two Harbors. Anyway, best of luck. C.
