Three masted schooner

For the sailing enthusiasts only:

I saw him sailing this single kayak into the Bedwell Harbour, S. Pender Island, then camped together for the next few days last weekend.

He does not use amas, and for windward work he has a single leeboard (dutch style??). He claims that he can sail into the wind. His kayak is of large volume, about 19' long, 22" beam. Sorry to drift into fiberglass class, but perhaps there is something some of you can copy from him.

Here is him sailing upwind. Interesting indeed.

Copy from him, - at that water temperatures? No, thanks... Yes, there is a guy - I recall some post now on Paddlewise mail-list, monohull, no amas. Yes, one can sail upwind as long as he's got a leeboard large enough for a given sail area. (If anything, amas do not help with keeping close to upwind . They do help with stability, though).

Wonder if this could tack upwind without those 2 PAs (interested in one of them though :) ).
Thanks
