A group of us are building four kayaks for multi day trips. We are beginners and are looking for a compromise between primary and secondary stability. Based on what I have read, multi chine designs offer this. Would this suit our needs. We are bigger guys 230-250 lbs.

And I will now brace myself for the oncoming criticism, but we are also needing to save on weight, and bulk. Can anyone speculate what removing the 3rd or top chine and just making a straight line between the second chine and gunwale would do. I would think it would decrease secondary stability, but I'm not an engineer.

I have emailed Tom, but thought that others might be able to offer advise.

We are considering the seat tour 17R, but are worried about being over weight.

Thanks in advance

That's the picture of the frame of a Sea Tour 15:

Which structural part do you want to remove?

In my opinion, the weight saving would not be that impressive.
