Non folder SOF

Does anyone know if Dyson, Baidarka & Company are still providing plans etc.
They are bit hard to chase down from this corner of the world.

Hello Tom, thanks for the prompt reply and the email address.

Most of the information I had seen for this company was somewhat dated
and indicated that they did not do business via email.

Agreed... I always faxed him my order, but that was years ago. However, the address I posted for him was
listed just last week on another forum, so I think it's current. I reckon there's only one way to find out :)

I've built several Dyson Baidarka's over the years. Excellent designs... Tom

Lovely looking boat you have built there Tom.
The Baidarkas seem to look best with an all white finish.
I wonder how a Baidarka would go as a folder?

George emailed my back last night and yes the plans are still
available.

Many thanks for your help in making contact.

Funny you should ask

Below are 2 Dysons I built as folders and another built as a woodstrip.
These early folders taught me lots about what not to do... :?
Multi-chine kayaks are more complex as folders.... and Baidarka's are multi-chine.

All but one of these pics are pre-Digicam so the scanned prints leave a lot to be desired....Tom

Hello Tom, thanks for posting the pictures of the folding baidarka.

Would it be much easier if you did it again using the HDPE ribs or
multi chines are complex as folders and there's not much to be done
about it?

I assume the main issue a long assembly time?

I hadn't considered doing one as a stripper until I saw
your beautiful redwood double.

Thanks for sharing.

Longer assembly time, and greater frame weight with a multi-chine... and way too many tubes. HDPE snaps would help speed things up,
but not enough to please me  That's why I've been experimenting with inflatable / folder / hybrids. Lighter weight and much quicker
assembly.

I've got a new design for a single chine Baidarka that should make a good folder. It's been built as a wood non folder, but a folding version
wouldn't be a problem. It's called a "Roldarka" .... I haven't found time to get the offsets into the manual yet.

The one pictured was built by Dave Gentry of Boulder, Colorado.... A very good builder. There's also a childs version appropriatly called the
"Kidarka" plus a "Tourdarka" multi-chine..... I guess a "Doppeldarka" is inevitable :D .... Tom

Hello Tom I'm always amazed at when ever a type of kayak is mentioned you are nearly always
able to say "Here's one I built earlier". I like the look of your Roldarka particularly if it can be built as
a older.
