Curious if anyone here has tried to mount a camera on their deck. What sort of setup did you go with? It doesn't seem as though something like the Sticky Pod (http://www.stickypod.com/boat_camera_mount.html) will be very useful because of our deck materials.

I would rather think of something with straps. Like FC mount for Spirit Sails:
http://www.spiritsails.com/products-page/accessories/feathercraft-kayak-base---part-223/. You don't have to buy this one - camera won't fit into this base anyway, but this is the only method that may work. Bent (peaked) aluminum plate 1/8" with foam underneath and some top cut off the cheap photo-tripod is the first that comes to my mind. Or buy that "mini" stickipod and use its head with photo-screw. Hard to tell from their pictures if this head from "mini" can be attached to the flat plate. Or - to one side of the peaked plate, which makes no difference, as the thread on the camera is usually closer to one side. You might also need a swivel head on that screw - any $10 tripod will have a swivel head. Plus, 4 straps with buckles - $2 each or so. May be something already exists on the market.

When I mount my Optimus camera on my front deck , I have it on my octopus tripod. The legs of the tripod are wraped around my spare (storm) paddle and the wrist strap (with a ladderlock tightened) is around the paddle too.
Then I wrap a strip of neoprene with velcro around a couple of the legs to hold it firm.

I hope that was understandable...can't take a picture because I would need the camera to do the picture (of the camera)

Best wishes
Roy

I was considering using something like the octopus tripod, but I wasn't sure what was the best way to secure it.
