It's time to buy fuel for that Primus Micron stove I purchased awhile back, and I'm wondering whether it is necessary, as the manufacturer's literature says it is, to make exclusive use of the Primus products: "primus 2207" and "primus2202", or whether the stove will be useable with other brands of butane fuel cannisters.

Yep, this is something I should have researched before spending my REI Outlet discount coupon on the stove, but didn't.

Any help will be appreciated,

Chris

Chris, a litle googling revealed this page from REI: http://www.rei.com/outlet/product/48015753.htm

I think any of the propane/butane mix cartridges with the correct fitting should work. I've been using a brand called MasterGlow ($3 for 8 oz weight) I got from Fred Meyer.

Is this the stuff - http://www.athenabrands.com/products/fu ... .asp?ID=10 ? The link you posted is the item I bought, using an additional discount code from an REI catalogue or email (don't recall which) - it was very inexpensive.

Thanks again,

Chris
Is this the stuff - http://www.athenabrands.com/products/fu ... .asp?ID=10 ? The
No. You need the squatty containers with a "universal threaded valve" (aka screw-on fitting), such as marketed by MSR, SnowPeak, Primus, etc. MasterGlow's container is a clone for the MSR one. Mine is MasterGlow #01220. MasterGlow is a subsidiary of Athena Brands, Inc., out of Nevada. This is what I have: http://salestores.com/at01hipefubl.html but I paid less, over the counter, at the local mass marketer.
