dear guys, I am posting here to have some help regarding the hull of an old klepper 520.
as you can see in the attached picture I have to solve 2 main issues in the hull:
1. the cracks in the rubber close to the rudder;
2. the worn skin (like elephant skin) probably due to the excess of UV sunlight.

for the problem #1 I was thinking of gluing with cement and for the #2 varnish after some sandpapering

Unfortunately, I still do not know which material Klepper used to fabricate the 520 hulls back in the 70s..
depending on the polymer type there are different glues and paints to be used, so if anyone knows details or suggestions about, they will be helpful!
thanks!

That’s a rubber hull. Varnish won’t adhere or stay flexible. There are rubber coatings people have used in the past, but the safest solution is to have a new hull sewn on to your deck. Long Haul can do that for around half the cost of a new hull.

can you be more specific about the hull material?
I would line to know how to figure out if it is hypalon CSM rubber, TPU polyurethane or PVC
depending on the manufacuring year and the model, klepper used different types but I do knot know where to find the infos

Hi Azanutta,
That pattern of crazing means it predates hypalon. It is natural rubber on cotton, not pvc or polyurethane.
All the best,
