I have broken an ear that attaches an aluminum crossrib to the washboard. Does anyone have spares (I'm not sure why anyone would)? Any suggestions for a replacement? Anybody parting out a Yukon or an Aleut from which I could get ribs, plastic or aluminum? Thanks!

If I understand you correctly without a picture, couldn't you just cut a new ear from aluminum and pop-rivet it to the crossframe?

Sorry for the delayed response, flatwater. I cannot find a way to consistently receive email notifications of activity in the foldingkayaks forums I follow.

I suppose I could try to fashion an ear from sheet aluminum. I'm not accomplished at that sort of thing and worry that I would stress the metal in the attempt.

Can you post a picture of the broken area?
I'm not able to visualize what you're dealing with.

Oh boy.
That would be a fun fabrication project.
You could make one out of a big piece of aluminum angle. Cut off the length you need, drill and file the holes and maybe do a little hammering around a piece of pipe to get the curve.

I might try that one day, flatwater. I'm the meantime I am keeping my eyes open for someone parting out a Yukon or Aleut.

I've been trying to buy that Yukon frame from him but he won't budge on the price and he won't ship.
He's been trying to sell it for almost a year.
Good luck.

I was thinking that is an Aleut frame.

Hard to verify.
He claims it's 179" long - that's almost 15 feet which would be a Kodiak.
But
It only has three crossframes so that means Aleut or Yukon.
Who knows?
He won't sell at a reasonable price so I guess he can keep it.

Listing's marked "Ended" now. In the photo, I can see where there're sockets in the keel for ribs fore and aft. So, not an Aleut or Yukon. Sorry, should've looked more closely. C.

Wow.
You're right.
How did I miss that.
It's a Kodiak frame, missing crossframes 1 and 5.
All the more reason to not give the guy his $200.
At least that explains his length measurement. He's right, it's 15' long - a Kodiak.

Good catch, Chris! I also missed the plates for additional ribs.
