Well that was a heck of a note: after making it through some significant surf in Costa Rica last month, I pulled on the rudder rope to give it the usual test deployment, and -- plop! -- the whole assembly came off the boat and went for a swim! I knew it was a little loose, and should have been on the case earlier. Anyway, it was easy to fish up on the back deck, if less easy to keep there in rollers as I looked around for a good landing spot to take it off and finish the day rudderless (and I really like it when trolling for fish).

I more or less successfully re-attached it overnight with a lot of aquaseal. Is that adequate though? What would be the best way to make sure that fist-sized piece of plastic with a hole in it stays on the stern from now on? I have some E6000 glue on hand.

Has anyone else had this happen with a Feathercraft boat? After a failed sponson tube a few years ago, this is my second-largest equipment failure in 14 years of paddling them. Not bad :)

Sounds like a plan, I've got his email from a recent parts purchase.
