I'm waiting for their winter sale to come around. In the meantime, I've just acquired a good needle and thread to have a go at some repairs to the sewing on the canvas deck. The deck itself seems good, but I assume the thread sewing d-rings and so forth is beginning to get old because these things are beginning to come away.

I would love to be paddling where you are!

I expect someone who knows more than me will be along to give us their wisdom in a minute. Might it not be the year of manufacture? (Or do you know otherwise?)
I've an antique T9 from about that year-though I've not noticed such a number yet. I'll have a look when I'm next assembling it.

Beautiful boat. Looks like you did a nice job on those cables. I've been wanting to to this myself. Where, how do you do the wire crimping?

On my Longhaul I used $3 pack of aluminum crimps from Home Depot and $15 crimping tool from the same (when making changes to the pedal end of the cable), but it didn't come out that beautiful.

Crimping tool from HD turned out to be also a wire stripper (or it was a wire stripper capable of crimping job).

I took the original cable as inspiration, and tried to replicate it with parts I could buy locally. The end result is much cheaper than a modern klepper replacement ;)

This is only good on synthetic decks (which is probably the case with Wayland?)

With original cotton deck of Klepper a different spray should be used.

Normally, new synthetic deck needs a preventive treatment for UV protection, but when properly manufactured (not sure if this is the case with Wayland), it doesn't leak and therefore doesn't need waterproofing (though UV protection and waterproofing are often combined in one spray). The only area that needs waterproofing on a new synthetic deck is the deck-hull seam (and hatch seam if you have a hatch), where sealant like SeamGrip should be used instead of water-repellent spray like Nikwax.

I confused the picture, the product I use is more like this

which is specific for canvas and adds UV protection. However I see that it has been discontinued.

I applied it sparsely on the canvas and it made a huge difference in terms of how wet it got at the end of the day.

Ok, Nikwax official announcement (when they launched the product) says that it's for UV protection, and doesn't say if it's intended for cotton or synthetic, but other products don't always specify this too.

Assuming that your deck is cotton like original Klepper, next time use 303 Fabric Guard http://www.303products.com/shop303/index.cfm/category/66/303-high-tech-fabric-guard.cfm if you won't find that Nikwax. It doesn't say "for cotton", but it mentions natural materials like wool, silk and leather. Manufacturers of these products don't know abut folding kayaks with cotton deck. Fabric Guard is probably similar to Nikwax Polar, but Longhaul recommends Fabric Guard for cotton decks.

The boat is beautiful. I am impressed with the quality and look of the hull. As far as the logo, I can say that if a boat is used a lot the logo :lol: wears off. I have an A1 and the only way a novice would know it is a Klepper is by the flag. All other decals have peeled off.
