Hi all,
Would someone be able to shed some light as to weather this is a good buy, I see it a Wayland skin,
But all looks in pretty good nic? Should I make a counter offer?

I am aware the packing bags are pretty shot

https://www.willhaben.at/iad/kaufen-und ... 212170218/

Which Aerius model is this, also would anyone know what year this kayak is?

Peter

That's a pretty old frame but looks in good order. It's a classic Aerius 2. Looks like the rod holders have been replaced with modern black plastic fittings but with the H section keel sections, single bottom seat clips and look of the bags snd foot rest, I'd say she's from the 60s.
Most of the value is in the much newer skin. I'd want to know how old it is or at least some photos of the bottom. A good test is a sharp pinch of the bottom hull material and a close up photo of the fold to check for any cracking. It looks pretty new but you need to know more about it before investing that sort of money.

Rainer will be able to tell you what month it was produced
Cheers Jim.

Hi Jim,
Thanks for the input appreciated.
The skin was bought in 2008 the base is Hypalon, in German he says in general the kayak has been looked after.
Packing bags are in the region of 300 Euro?, I see I'm not going to get away with repairing the existing,
Although he says it just needs new zips, judging by the pic.
Would this classic be a 545? In your mind is this model a 'classic' or should I hang in for a better deal, model?
Thanks for the tip on pinching the hull and checking for cracks, if I get to Vienna to see it I will definitely check that out.
What did you mean by rod holders? Where the ribs attach to the hull?

Let's say the skin is in very good condition, would this price be 'ok'
Cheers
Pete

"Classic" means the short version: Aerius II (520cm)
The offer in Austria (willhaben.at) is much too expensive for a boat with a 9 years old Wayland-skin and old broken bags. It's just a skin made of Wayland... :(

Very good price (sold), boat with original skin/Hypalon from the early 80th: http://www.ebay.de/itm/Klepper-Faltboot ... 7675.l2557

This boat was a good offer (late 70th with original skin/Hypalon): http://www.ebay.de/itm/Faltboot-Klepper ... 7675.l2557

Not bad (from the 90th, original skin/Hypalon): http://www.ebay.de/itm/Faltboot-Klepper ... 7675.l2557

or ask Markus Heise (http://www.heise-faltboote.de)

R.

You can always get a cheap snow board bag and a diver's gear bag to house your AE11 but it does effect the value. The rod holders are clips that are riveted to the bottom corners of each frame. The old style were blue rubber that break down after 30 years or so. Modern holders are black plastic.
Cheers Jim
