RUDDER BRACKET ON KLEPPER

Post by john allsop »

I have just been corresponding with one of our members on how to remove the rudder bracket from a Klepper A2, and as other members may not know about this fitting here it is. The main anchor for the fitting is a "stud or Bolt" that goes right through the skin and a nut which i think is 10mm on the inside. this nut can be reached when the skin is of the frame and by going down under the rear deck it can be felt. What is needed is a long thinnish walled socket on a "driver handle", like a screw driver. on removing the nut a special washer will be found, this "special washer "MUST be used when the fitting is put back on the skin. I seem to remember that a few stiches have to be cut on the outside but as it is a long time since i did this and my Klepper skins are not at hand i can,t check. Here are photos with the bracket removed.

Thanks John, this is helpful. It is interesting that this is the only conventional fastener, out of dozens of clips/slides/tangs, in the entire boat.

Best,

In younger Klepper boats the screw thread is M6 (6mm) and the key length is 10mm, in older Klepper boats M6 and the key length is 11mm !!

Yes i thought they may have made them smaller on newer boats, the parts in the photo are from 1976,
