Three cheers for Long Haul Kayaks

Post by overland »

I finally called Long Haul yesterday to discuss my complicated Klepper repair issues. I talked briefly to Joel, who is their sewer, and at length to Mark. They were gracious and patient and very helpful. I hung up feeling grateful not only for their time but also for the presence in the US of a company with such deep expertise in folding kayaks, especially Kleppers. Cheapskates like me must try their patience. I felt a little bad I didn't place an order right there for a new skin--it would have been the right thing to do. I did learn a few things: that the old black Klepper hulls were made of inferior material compared to the gray Hypalon, which was top notch. That to sew on a Klepper deck you need to remove the rubber bumpers on the hull, which come off, some with the application of heat, but not necessarily in one piece. That providing one part--a used deck or a used hull--will save you quite a few bucks, but not half the cost of a whole new hull.
